2017 National Board Technical Scholarship Winners

 

Gary Barker attends California State University Maritime Academy and is pursuing a degree in marine engineering. He is expected to graduate in April 2020. Gary is involved in two clubs directly related to his studies: the Blacksmithing Club and Welding and Manufacturing Club. He is also a member of the campus Coast Guard Auxiliary program. Gary’s career goals include becoming a chief engineer aboard a U.S. flagged merchant ship and an inspector for FM Global. His father is Commissioned Inspector Timothy Barker.

 

Filip Dinic is studying material science at the University of Toronto and will obtain his undergraduate degree in 2018. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in material science and engineering, and possibly a PhD. His key interests involve non-destructive examination of materials and fracture mechanics to predict and increase equipment lifespan. Filip maintains a 3.4 GPA and was on the 2015-2016 Dean’s List. He aspires to a career as an engineer in non-destructive examination. His father is Commissioned Inspector Caslav Dinic.
