ABMA’s Scott Lynch Announced as General Session Speaker

The National Board announces Scott Lynch, President and CEO of the American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA), will address the 85th General Meeting May 9, in Orlando, Florida. His presentation is entitled, ABMA — Turning Challenges into Opportunities.

In 2014, Mr. Lynch joined ABMA as its president and CEO. He spent his first year upgrading the association’s infrastructure, visiting members, engaging with industry partners, and seeing the best of the boiler industry firsthand. Through these visits, he obtained insights into the association’s perceived value, expertise, and impact.

In 2015, he engaged ABMA’s Board of Directors to set a new strategic direction for the association. This new focus is intended to embrace the rich history of a great organization and chart the course for a strong future.

Founded in 1888, ABMA is the oldest continuous trade association in the United States. ABMA was created to focus on a key challenge impacting the boiler industry: safety. Through leadership and cooperation, the industry was able to make significant advances in safety, saving lives, and increasing productivity. Today’s boiler industry remains focused on safety but the industry evolution has led to new challenges and ABMA is striving to be the source for solutions.

Mr. Lynch facilitated a strategic meeting with ABMA leaders and followed that with the creation of volunteer working groups around four priority areas: industry promotion, workforce development, advocacy and partnership, and finally, knowledge and value. These groups vetted concepts and ideas, coming to a consensus on a three-year strategy for each area for adoption in 2016.

Under Lynch’s leadership, ABMA is setting the course for unprecedented membership value, expanded outreach, and significant impact on the boiler industry.

Prior to ABMA, Lynch spent 15 years with SmithBucklin, the world’s largest association management company, holding executive positions with the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA), US Apple Export Council (USAEC), and National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA). He serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Council of Manufacturing Associations and is a guest columnist for Power Engineering Magazine.
