Member Retirements Announced

 

Madiha El-Mehelmy Kotb, P.E., Québec

National Board member Madiha El-Mehelmy Kotb, P.E., retired December 18, 2015. Kotb’s membership spanned 26 years. She represented the province of Québec. She was a member at large on the National Board’s Board of Trustees (from 1991 to 1993) and also served on both the Strategic Planning Committee and the Constitution and Bylaws Committee. 

In July of 2013, Kotb was elected to a one-year term as president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). She was ASME’s 132nd president and the fourth woman to serve in that position. She is an ASME fellow and has been an active member of the society for 30 years. Her extensive leadership activities included serving on the ASME Board of Governors and as vice president of Conformity Assessment. She also served as a member of the ASME Committee on Governance and Strategy, the Council on Codes and Standards, the Committee on Ethical Standards and Review, the ASME Subcommittee on Nuclear Accreditation, and as lead volunteer member for Engineering for Change (E4C).

A native of Cairo, Egypt, Kotb graduated from Concordia University in Montréal with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Under her leadership, the Quebec jurisdiction was among the first to receive nuclear accreditation as an ASME authorized inspection agency.

 


 

Benjamin Anthony, Rhode Island

National Board member Benjamin Anthony retired December 31, 2015. He represented Rhode Island. Mr. Anthony became a National Board member in 2004. He served in the US Marines from 1966-1970. An infantryman, he served 14 months in Vietnam. He began his civilian career working as a heating plant engineer at a hospital in Rhode Island before assuming the position of chief engineer at Rhode Island College. In 1987, he went to work for the state as an inspector before becoming chief in 1999. He served on the National Board’s Board of Trustees as member at large from 2014-2015.
