Doug Smiley Announced as General Meeting Speaker
 
The National Board announces Doug Smiley of Zurich Services Corporation will address the General Session at the 83rd General Meeting in Bellevue, Washington. His presentation is entitled, Biofuels—How Impacting the Greenhouse Effect Impacts Power Boilers.
 
Mr. Smiley is a specialist in the area of jurisdictional inspections and machinery breakdown risk assessments. He is employed by Zurich Services Corporation as a senior risk engineering consultant—machinery breakdown. During his 33 years of loss prevention work in the insurance industry, Mr. Smiley has extensive consultative experience in the inspection and maintenance of production machinery and power generation equipment. He has a BS in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University and a boiler inspector commission from the National Board.  
       
Mr. Smiley’s specialized expertise includes the National Board Inspection Code; risk and claim assessments of most engineering lines written by large property and casualty insurance companies; and survey and loss control experience for equipment breakdown in virtually all industries, including power generation, pulp and paper, chemical, glass, steel, manufacturing, and food processing.
 
His professional affiliations and designations include his National Board commission, with commissions in several states; Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Insurance Institute of America; and Certified Safety Professional (1988-1998).
