NBBI Assistant Executive Directors Chair ASME Committees

Both National Board assistant executive directors (Mike Pischke, assistant executive director- administrative, and Gary Scribner, assistant executive director- technical) currently serve as chairs on several ASME Committees.

Mike Pischke serves as the Chair of the Committee on Welding, Brazing and Fusing, which he was appointed to on July 1, 2022.

Pischke began his career in the pressure equipment industry 44 years ago as a pressure vessel welder. Ten years into the profession, he left welding to obtain a bachelor of science in metallurgical engineering, and later a master of science in material science. For 23 years prior to joining NBBI, he worked in quality management positions for Alfa Laval and GE Power. In these positions he was responsible for quality and welding programs in compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code) Sections I, VIII, IX and the National Board Inspection Code. He also served on various ASME Code Committees over the last 25 years and the National Board Advisory Committee for six years.

Gary Scribner serves as the Chair of CAA (Committee on AIA Accreditation) and Chair of QAI-1 (Qualifications for Authorized Inspection), both of which he was appointed to on July 1, 2021.

Scribner joined the National Board staff in January 2014 as the manager of technical services. Prior to that, he held the position of deputy director for the state of Missouri for seven years. He joined the state of Missouri as a field inspector in 2003, was made interim deputy director in 2006, and later that year was named permanent deputy director. He became a National Board member in 2007. In 2009, he was elected to the National Board’s Board of Trustees as a member at large, and later, as second vice chair. Mr. Scribner also served 22-1/2 years in the United States Navy.
