The C.O. Myers Safety Award, as defined in the National Board Bylaws, Section 5.3, recognizes individuals responsible for significant achievements and contributions to the National Board. Nominees should have at least 15 years of active participation in National Board activities.
The candidates are submitted for approval to the Board of Trustees by the Executive Director. The recipient will be determined by a two-thirds majority vote of Board of Trustees members.
- The nominee shall have served at least one term on any of the following:
- Board of Trustees
- National Board Advisory Committee
- National Board Committee or Task Group
- Nationally recognized standards committee or subcommittee
- The nominee shall have participated in National Board activities for at least 15 years.
- The nominee should be recognized as a contributor to professional organizations related to the boiler and pressure vessel industry.
- The nominee’s significant achievements must fit in one of the below categories:
- Leadership
The nominee must be an executive or top-level manager who is recognized as a leader or spokesperson in the industry. The nominee should have a history of career accomplishments that demonstrate leadership and commitment to the profession.
- Governmental Affairs
The nominee must have made contributions to the advancement of boiler and pressure vessel safety through the support of legislation on a local, state or national level.
- Education and Training
The nominee must be a recognized contributor to the development and implementation of new and innovative training programs and should be recognized as a teacher and mentor in the boiler and pressure vessel industry.
- Codes and Standards
The nominee must be recognized by peers as having extraordinary technical knowledge. Their technical knowledge in code committees should have helped further the activity of the committees in developing a new code or standard or in making a major revision to an existing one. The nominee should be recognized by their peers as a forward-thinking individual who has identified and promoted the development of codes or standards for emerging technologies. They also should have demonstrated exemplary dedication to the protection and safety of the public.
Nominations may be submitted by any individual except a current member of the Board of Trustees or the Executive Director.
Applications outlining the candidate’s achievements must be submitted from at least three (3) individuals and sent to the Executive Director. At least two (2) of the applications must be from a current or past member of the National Board.
- Carefully complete all sections of the application form.
- Sign the last page of the application.
- Submit a personal statement explaining why the nominee should receive C.O. Myers Safety Award. Attach this statement to the paper application or upload it to the online application form.
