George Galanes to Present at 82nd General Meeting
 
The National Board announces George W. Galanes as a presentation speaker at the 82nd General Meeting in Miami, Florida, on May 13. The topic: Recent Catastrophic Failures of High Temperature/High Pressure Power Boiler Components - What Happened and Where do we go from Here?
 
Mr. Galanes has been employed in the power generation industry for over 30 years. Throughout his career he has been directly involved with conducting failure analysis investigations associated with power generation equipment (coal, gas, nuclear, and wind); participating and leading root cause analysis investigations of large equipment failures; and performing welding and material consultations.
 
He recently retired from Midwest Generation and joined Diamond Technical Services, Inc. as a consulting metallurgical engineer in September 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering (1981) and a Master of Science degree in metallurgical engineering (1983) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a licensed Professional Metallurgical Engineer in the states of Illinois, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
 
Currently, Mr. Galanes is a member of the National Board Advisory Committee representing welding; the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Main Committee; Chair of the NBIC, Part 3, Repairs and Alterations Subcommittee; a member of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section I, Standards Committee; Chair of the Subgroup Materials under Section I; and is a member of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Rule Board for the state of Illinois.
