National Board Remembers Ronald Howard
The National Board is saddened to announce the passing of Ronald C. Howard on May 11, 2018. Mr. Howard served as chairman of the National Board Inspection Code Committee, and was also a National Board Advisory Committee member, representing authorized inspection agencies. In 2001, he was awarded the National Board Safety Medal.
Mr. Howard retired in 2001 after 27 years with Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Company. He began his career as a boiler and nuclear power plant inspector, progressing to management positions, and culminating as assistant vice president of quality/engineering. He served in many national and international organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and as president of The Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Laws Society.
Mr. Howard was honored to serve his country in the U.S. Army 19th Combat Engineers and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he earned a commendation medal, a Purple Heart, and a Valorous Unit Award, equivalent to the Silver Star.
A memorial service will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama, on Friday, May 25, 2018, with visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. A military ceremony at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi, will follow (date and time to be announced).
