2018 National Board Technical Scholarship Winners

 

Nowell Covington of Benton, Pennsylvania, is a senior at Pennsylvania College of Technology majoring in construction management. His expected graduation date is May 2019. Nowell maintains a 3.85 grade point average. He is vice president of the Construction Management Association, a board member of the Williamsport Habitat for Humanity, and a volunteer at his community’s food bank. He has served summer internships with The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company where he was exposed to large-scale construction projects. His career goal is to become a project superintendent with an industry-leading construction company and eventually own his own development company. His father is former Commissioned Inspector Donald Covington.

 

James Louer Jr. of Clifton, New Jersey, is a sophomore at SUNY Maritime College in New York pursuing a bachelor of marine engineering and a United States Coast Guard third assistant engineering license. He is expected to graduate in 2020. James was selected to participate in an exclusive Cadet Shipping Program, where he will work on board a commercial ship in the United States Merchant Marine. He is involved in the Regimental band playing first trumpet and is a member of the rowing crew team. He was also selected as squad leader to assist incoming freshmen. After graduation, James looks forward to sailing and upgrading his license. His father is Commissioned Inspector James Louer Sr.

 

Trent Creacy of Springtown, Texas, is a sophomore at Midwestern State University (MWSU) studying for a degree in mechanical engineering. His expected graduation date is spring 2020. Trent was chosen as one of ten recipients of MWSU’s 2017 President’s Distinguished Scholars award and is an active member of the university’s ASME club. He is also actively involved in outreach and volunteer projects at his church. Upon graduation, Trent plans to establish himself at an engineering firm and pursue a seminary degree to work bi-vocationally as an engineer and a pastor. His father is Commissioned Inspector Todd Creacy.
