Carl E. Spaeder, Ph.D, P.E. Announced as General Session Presenter
The National Board announces Dr. Carl E. Spaeder will address the Monday General Session at the 81st General Meeting in Nashville with a presentation entitled, Potential Detrimental Consequences of Excessive PWHT on Pressure Vessel Steel Properties.
Dr. Spaeder is a private consultant on metallurgical issues, properties of high temperature metals, and welding problems. His expertise has made him a key player with organizations hiring engineers for specialized projects.
He received his bachelor of science in metallurgy at Penn State before earning his masters in metallurgy engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He was awarded his Ph.D in metallurgic engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Spaeder’s career has spanned 55 years. It started in 1957 with USX Corporation, with whom he was employed for 30 years. In 1987 he joined Lehigh University as a research engineer specializing in welding and related projects. In 1990 he joined Aristech Chemical Corporation as the senior staff materials engineer. Following retirement in 1999, Mr. Spaeder opened his own consulting organization.
Dr. Spaeder has been active in a number of industry organizations including ASME, The American Society for Metals, The American Welding Society, and The Welding Research Council. He is a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and has published numerous articles in some of the industry’s most prestigious technical journals.
