John Burpee Retires as Maine’s Chief Boiler Inspector

John Burpee retired October 31 as chief boiler inspector for the state of Maine, a position he held since 1999.

Throughout his career, Burpee was an active participant in the National Board community. He served on the Board of Trustees, including terms as Member at Large (2010-2014), Chair (2014-2017), and First Vice Chair (2019-May 2025).

In recognition of his service, Burpee was honored at the National Board Members’ Meeting in October.

Following his retirement, he has joined the National Board as a jurisdictional liaison, continuing his long-standing commitment to advancing safety in the boiler and pressure vessel industry.

Burpee also served in the U.S. Navy from 1986 to 1990.
