Paul Bourgeois is the 33rd recipient of NBBI’s highest honor

The National Board (NBBI) is proud to announce Paul Bourgeois as the recipient of this year’s C.O. Myers Safety Award.

Bourgeois is a senior risk control consultant for Travelers Insurance and a resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He will be honored at the Wednesday evening banquet on May 14 during the 93rd General Meeting in Salt Lake City.

“I am so humbled and very thankful to be selected,” Bourgeois said.

As the 33rd recipient of this prestigious award – the highest honor bestowed by NBBI – Bourgeois joins a distinguished group of individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions to safety in the boiler and pressure vessel industry. Named after NBBI founder C.O. Myers, the award celebrates those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing industry safety standards.

With an IS Commission obtained in 1974 and an R Endorsement, Bourgeois has had a remarkable career spanning decades. He served on the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Part 1 Committee from 2006 to 2016 and was a member of the NBIC Main Committee from 2007 to 2016. He also is chairman of the Alabama Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessels.

He also served as the chief inspector for the state of Mississippi from 1977 to 1978. His career began in 1972 as an inspector for Hartford Steam Boiler, following two years in the U.S. Merchant Marine.

Mississippi Chief Thomas Carter, Alabama Chief Eddie Wiggins, and Eugene Robinson, an inspector with The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, nominated Bourgeois.

“Paul came to me when I first accepted this position two years ago,” Carter wrote on his nomination form. “He has been both a mentor and source of knowledge in navigating this position. Paul has a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to helping others ensure success in their efforts.”

“Paul is the definition of safety and has dedicated his entire career to promoting safety to boiler and pressure vessel owners, contractors, boilermakers, helpers, inspectors, and the general public,” Wiggins wrote.

“Paul is always willing to serve as a team member and is easygoing, responsible, and takes the time to mentor without inflicting the dangers of embarrassment,” Robinson wrote.
