Honorary Membership

Tony Oda, retired chief boiler inspector of Washington, was recognized as a National Board honorary member. Honorary membership is given to an individual who has made outstanding and noteworthy contributions toward improving the development, implementation, or enforcement of safety principles related to the boiler and pressure vessel industry. Oda spent more than four decades in the boiler and pressure vessel industry. He previously worked for Chevron USA before joining the state of Washington in 1992. He became chief inspector in 2011 and retired in September 2020. Mr. Oda served as both a National Board/ASME team leader and on the NBBI Board of Trustees as a member at large.

Steve Nelson (not present), retired chief inspector for the state of Colorado, was also recognized as an honorary member.

Membership Service Awards

Rick Sturm, representing the state of Utah, was honored for his 15 years of service as a National Board Member during the General Meeting. Sturm worked for the Utah Labor Commission as a boiler and pressure vessel inspector for 10 years before becoming chief inspector. Prior to joining the state, he worked as a sheet-metal installer.

Christopher Selinger and Edward Kawa (not present) also received recognition for their 10 years of membership service.
