Frequently Asked Questions: VR Stamp Certificate of Authorization Program

The National Board Pressure Relief Department and Testing Laboratory receives common inquiries regarding VR stamp accreditation. The following is a review of frequently asked questions and answers.
 
Q: How long does it usually take to acquire a VR stamp?
 
A: With a successful shop review and verification testing, it usually takes between 2-3 months from application process to receipt of certificate and stamp. 
 
 
Q: Before my company’s VR shop review, is it required to attend the National Board Pressure Relief Valve Repair (VR) seminar?
 
A: No, it is not required. However, we do recommend attending the National Board VR seminar because it is designed specifically for individuals who will perform this type of work.
 
 
Q: Which parts of the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) do I need in order to prepare for my company’s VR shop review?
 
A: It is required that applicants have on hand all three (3) parts of the NBIC.
 
 
Q: How do I order another VR stamp?
 
A: Please submit a written request and the amount of $60 (for loan of the stamp) to our office.
